Manning, Selvage and Lee managing director Jackie Elliot has confirmed
recent talks with Square Mile Communications, amid growing interest in
the City PR firm from would-be buyers.
Elliot told PR Week: ‘ We have been informal affiliates for more than a
year and we have had talks about building on that relationship.
‘If we were going to buy a financial agency, we would very much like to
buy Square Mile.’
Elliot said that there had been about a dozen times during the last year
when the two agencies had supported each other on projects.
Square Mile joint managing director Susan Ellis declined to confirm
whether discussions with MS&L had touched on acquisition.
She said: ‘We have explored a lot of things and I would not want to be
specific about we have talked about. We are keen to increase the value
of our business and if that involves them helping us, we would be happy
Ellis who, along with fellow MD Tim Jackaman helped form the agency in
1988, said the agency usually received at least one acquisition offer
She said: ‘We are focusing on our business at the moment and are looking
to recruit heavily, rather than be bought. However, at the end of the
day, if someone put a lot of money on the table we might consider it.’
