Hobbs joins from Beachcroft Regulatory Consulting where he was a managing director and will join the rebranded Lansons Public Affairs and Regulatory Consulting practice.

He joins as a board director and brings his portfolio of clients with him. He will lead the rebranded practice alongside Lansons' existing head of public affairs, Ben Abbotts.

The new division will target financial services firms, offering them strategic advice and comms support in relation to issues around regulation.

Lansons chief executive Tony Langham described the sector as ‘highly specialised' and noted that the division would primarily be competing with specialist divisions of legal and accountancy firms for business.

He said: ‘Relations with the FSA form a key part of the public relations of almost every financial services company. Richard's hire adds considerable teeth to our expanding corporate communications capability.'

Previously Hobbs worked in the insurance directorate of the Department of Trade and Industry as the director responsible for the reconstruction of the Lloyd's insurance market and was head of life and pensions at the Association of British Insurers for three and a half years.
