The Local Government Association is trawling for agency support and

gearing up its PR team in preparation for its launch on 1 April.

LGA’s head of press and PR, Rosa Van der Meersch says she is looking for

ideas for a major PR push to coincide with the LGA’s inaugural

conference in July.

This will be preceded by a ’launch week’ starting 24 March, that will

reveal the findings of new MORI research on attitudes to local

government.

The association has also been building its in-house team and last week

appointed two senior PR staff.

Mark Oakes, currently media relations manager for the Association of

County Councils, has been named as chief press officer. Michael Baker,

publications manager at the ACC, has been made corporate communications

manager with responsibility for developing LGA publications and internal

communications.

Earlier this month the LGA also appointed Jim Duvall and Damien Welfare

as head of information services, and head of government relations and

public affairs respectively. Duvall and Welfare join Van der Meersch and

head of conferences and events Phil Reader to complete the senior

management team that reports to Carol Grant, the LGA’s director of

communications and public affairs.
