Former Cohn & Wolfe senior director Mark Cater has resurfaced at Chamberlain Healthcare PR. The move comes as the US agency strengthens its UK operation.

Cater has joined Chamberlain as managing director of its London office, three months after quitting C&W (PRWeek, 14 October 2009).

Cater was one of C&W's most senior-ranking employees and he was made regional director for EMEA in 2008. He also headed up GCI before its merger with C&W two years ago.

Chamberlain, which is headquartered in New York, launched a London office in 2008. The agency was initially headed up by MD Amanda Moulson, who left after only a year in the job. It has been operating without an MD since Moulson's departure last January, when she left to join Ketchum as an associate director in its healthcare team.

Chamberlain has a small team of freelance and permanent staff and Cater said he plans to hire more staff.

'Given our brief tenure but serious intentions in London, it is important we attract the best leadership,' said Chamberlain president Richard Chamberlain. 'Mark's 22 years of public relations experience in both the public and private sectors across the UK, European and US markets makes him exceptionally qualified to lead our London team, support our worldwide clients and further our global communications efforts.'

Cater also previously spent six years in leadership roles as a partner and director at PR agency Ketchum, where he was responsible for the company's worldwide healthcare practice and served in the London and New York offices. 'Healthcare companies are again experimenting aggressively with communications and they want partners who complement and challenge them,' said Cater. 'London and New York clients ... are especially keen on sound judgment, innovation and results. I see those qualities as Chamberlain's strong suits whether programming in Europe, North America, or globally.'

In his new role, Cater will become a member of the agency management team.
