DIARY: A massive account is no reason to disrupt staff holidays at F-H

As another survey testifies to the stressful nature of public relations (PR Week, 13 September) it’s heartening to find one agency which respects its staff’s life outside of work hours.

As another survey testifies to the stressful nature of public relations

(PR Week, 13 September) it’s heartening to find one agency which

respects its staff’s life outside of work hours.

Fishburn Hedges, it seems, turned down the chance to handle the TR

European Growth investment trust bid for the pounds 500 million

Kleinwort European Privatisation Investment Trust, not for reasons of

client conflict, budget or past history - but because the key agency

staff were due to go on holiday.

Neil Hedges, managing director of Fishburn Hedges, which already works

for TREG’s managers Henderson Touche Remnant, tells me he wasn’t tempted

to bang the desk and tell his people to call off their holidays.

‘It was the right decision under the circumstances’ says Hedges, with

conviction, assuring me that the holidaymakers ‘came back relaxed’.

Good on him, I say.
