NEWS: Capital Radio seeks PR head ‘in tune with youth’

Capital Radio is searching for a head of PR and publicity for its key London stations, Capital FM and Capital Gold.

Capital Radio is searching for a head of PR and publicity for its key

London stations, Capital FM and Capital Gold.

The job, reporting to head of programming Pete Simmons, will involve

profile-raising activity for DJ’s such as FM’s Chris Tarrant and Gold’s

Tony Blackburn.

The chosen candidate will also co-ordinate publicity for Capital events

such as the Summer Jam concert on Clapham Common and the Easter

fundraising event, Help a London Child.

Justin Hunt, Capital Radio’s public relations chief of two years

standing, resigned earlier this month due to personal commitments.

Simmons said broadcast PR experience was not an essential requirement

for the job, but he is looking for someone with a good knowledge of the

youth PR market.

Managerial qualifications are also necessary to look after a small team

consisting of a press officer - Kate van Beek - and a photographer.

Simmons is also considering the appointment of a PR agency to assist

with the promotion of Capital events on a project basis and has asked

several firms to pitch.

Capital Radio, which also owns seven regional radio stations including

Southern FM in Sussex and Birmingham stations BRMB FM and XTRA AM, uses

Grandfield for financial PR.
