US West International, the US West Media company which has stakes in
One2One, Thomson Directories and TeleWest, is to lose its director of
Alan Thompson is planning to quit the job at the end of October to take
a six-month break after a year heading the firm’s media relations,
financial and corporate PR.
The 35-year-old joined US West International, which manages the Denver-
based telecom giant’s commercial activities, from the PR agency Larkspur
A former director of communications at One2One, which is joined owned by
US West, Thompson was hired to create an international PR strategy and
improve relations with the company’s global partners.
US West International has overseas investments in 18 countries in cable
TV, directory publishing, marketing services and telecommunications
Thompson’s job will be split between his two-strong team. They are
former consultant Tim Brill, who was hired two months ago by Thompson
to manage media relations, and PR manager Fiona Rhodes, who handles
event management and internal communications.
Thompson, who has signed up for a sailing course during his time off,
hopes to return to full-time consultancy work in six months. ‘I joined
with a specific job in mind which has now been completed,’ he said. ‘I’m
taking the opportunity to have an extended period off.’
