MUNICH: Eurofighter, a consortium formed to manufacture the combat
aircraft of the same name, has hired a communications team to promote
the newly launched plane.
Charles Carr has been appointed vice-president of communications and
will be based in Munich, Germany. He joins from Matra-BAe Dynamics, an
Anglo-French joint venture aerospace company, where he was head of
public affairs. Previously he worked with British Aerospace
Carr will oversee an initial team of two, which includes newly-appointed
head of PR Wolfdietrich Hoeveler, who joins from German aerospace
publication Flug Review, where he was editor-in-chief from 1994.
Previously Hoeveler worked for the magazine Luftwaffe Forum. He also
worked for the German ministry of Defence’s Luftwaffe press office.
The PR team will co-ordinate communications for the Eurofighter
consortium, which is made up of Daimler-Benz Aerospace of Germany,
British Aerospace, Italian group Alenia Aerospazio and state-owned
Construcciones Aeronauticas SA of Spain.
In December 1992, Eurofighter hired Euro RSCG to handle its public
relations, advertising and marketing. The agency is establishing
dedicated press offices in each partner country. Euro RSCG uses Biss
Lancaster in the UK, ABC in Germany, Agenpress in Italy and Ruiz Nicoli
The in-house team and Euro RSCG will raise awareness of the product
among potential buyers and will target the general public in countries
interested in acquiring the fighter, to promote the need for investment
in military technology.
At the end of last month Eurofighter signed a contract to produce 620
aircarft. The UK has ordered 232, Germany 180, Italy 121, and Spain 87.
