Chester City Council is seeking its first head of communications
after consolidating its press and PR, marketing, graphics and
reprographics divisions into a single corporate communications
The new post holder will report to the council’s management board which
includes chief executive Paul Durham and three senior directors.
The corporate communications department will have a budget of pounds
500,000 a year and at the moment is staffed by a team of 24 people.
However the council expects to recruit two more media and public
Chester decided to create the new department after a communications
audit carried out by PR agency DTW.
It was felt that bringing communications services into one division
would cut costs by creating a more efficient structure. ’We felt we were
spending more money than we needed to on communications,’ said senior
policy officer Sid Jones.
