Early next year, Gee will leave her role as head of consultancy and board director at the agency where she has worked for five years.

Gee will head up a new planning department at Edelman, which will also see the appointment of Will Humphrey as head of planning. Humphrey joins from advertising agency Lowe London.

Edelman UK CEO Robert Phillips claimed the new department will work to a ‘very different model’ to existing planning departments in PR agencies.

Phillips said: ‘Too often PR firms have created planning departments to mimic the ad agencies, without really thinking through how the nature of audience and influence - and indeed demographics - has changed fundamentally.

‘We have spent a lot of time thinking through and building this new model, which fits absolutely with our work on the new era of public engagement and a world of continuous partial attention.’

Three further appointments are being sought to work in the department. Gee will help drive the growth of the practice and support the development of campaigns across the agency.

While at 3 Monkeys, Gee worked on Microsoft, Castrol and travelsupermarket.com. Her 17-year career also saw her work at QBO and as head of PR at Orange.

In addition, 3 Monkeys has promoted Christine Jewell to the role of joint MD, and has appointed Stuart Yeardsley from Red to the role of board director.
