PR professionals among healthiest employees in Britain, new survey finds

PR executives are Britain's healthiest employees despite claiming to work in one of the most highly stressed professions, according to a new survey.

PROs, along with marketing and advertising professionals, were found to have the healthiest lifestyles, to drink less alcohol and were less likely to smoke than other professions.

The survey of 3,000 workers, by healthcare cash plan provider Medicash, was compiled over the internet.

The figures are in stark contrast to those who work in the hospitality industry, who were revealed as the unhealthiest profession. People working in this sector eat more junk food, smoke more cigarettes and drink more alcohol than any other profession.

The survey also revealed that communications professionals were more likely than any other sector to work through their lunch hour. They also rated their profession as, on average, one of the most stressful, second only to working in health and social services.

Medicash sales and marketing director Peter Lauris said: ‘The survey showed that stress and unsociable hours can have a negative effect on people's ability to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The fact that employees in this sector find work demanding but still manage to limit the effect this has on their lifestyle is testimony to their resilience.'
