PR luminary Jan Shawe, who quit Carlton Communications after less than

six weeks as corporate affairs chief, has resurfaced at financial

services giant Prudential Corporation.

Shawe, who has worked as an independent consultant since leaving Carlton

in December 1994, has been named as the Pru’s new corporate relations

director.

She replaces corporate communications director Jeremy Wyatt, who is

leaving Prudential after five years, following a departmental

restructure.

On joining the Prudential in September, Shawe will report to group chief

executive Peter Davis. She will head up a 23-strong team, covering group

external and internal relations, government relations, sponsorship,

corporate identity management and community affairs. She will also be

involved with investor relations.

Shawe, whose recent consultancy clients have included the Tate Gallery

and the Department of Trade and Industry, said she was attracted back

in-house by the opportunity to work within a single company on one main

vision.

She said: ‘The financial community plays a major role in the health and

welfare of the country and achieving a greater understanding of that

must be one of my communications objectives.’ She declined to expand on

her reasons for leaving Carlton, saying merely: ‘It didn’t work out.’

Before joining Carlton in November 1994, Shawe spent seven and a half

years as corporate relations director at international publishing group

Reed Elsevier.

Departing director Wyatt said his move was linked to a recent

restructure which saw certain functions, including research and

advertising, move from his department to the Prudential’s UK operating

division.

He said: ‘I was not as happy with the role as I used to be and so I

decided to move on. I haven’t got anything to go to yet. It’s a case of

‘watch this space’.’

Before joining Prudential, which is Europe’s largest insurance group,

Wyatt was deputy managing director of Biss Lancaster.
