Berry, who is returning to the channel after four years of freelancing in digital media production, will take on the new role within Channel 4's press and publicity department.
Berry will report to chief publicity manager Sarah Booth. He will work alongside the established team of publicists to expand and broaden Channel 4's promotional campaigns across digital platforms. He will also help to further develop relationships with online journalists, bloggers and other key influencers in the digital space.
As part of his role, Berry is also charged with revamping the corporation's online press and publicity resource for journalists, initially developing an interactive press centre.
Berry said: 'This is a really exciting time to take on the role. Audiences are really starting to have fun with social media tools so there is so much scope to really engage in this space.'
He added: 'Channel 4 already embraces the potential of digital media in its PR campaigns, leading the way with stand-out digital campaigns such as Skins and Misfits, but I look forward to continuing to innovate in the jungle of blogs, forums, wikis and networks that make up the participatory digital world.'
Berry joined Channel 4 in 2001 as comedy editor for E4.com, becoming a Channel4.com producer in 2003 and subsequently working on a number of new media projects. He was also responsible for the Celebrity Big Brother website.
Since leaving the channel in 2005, Berry has worked at Endemol, the Discovery Channel and Ag8.
