Perhaps a small clue to the difficulties faced by its predecessors lies

in this job description from last September for a research and

development manager to run the company’s government and community

relations programme. In among the usual stuff about main duties and the

kind of experience the candidates will require is a rather intriguing

list of main equipment used which includes a word processor, mobile

telephone - and a dry ice machine.

A revolutionary approach to contact-building with Labour MPs perhaps?

Who knows, but it could make all the difference when trying to sneak in

a last minute amendment to a bill at committee stage.
