MEDIA: Capital quells advertiser fears

The Radio Authority has sought a number of assurances from Capital Radio to allay advertisers concerns about its increasing dominance of the radio advertising sales market.

The Radio Authority has sought a number of assurances from Capital Radio

to allay advertisers concerns about its increasing dominance of the

radio advertising sales market.

Capital Radio London and its wholly-owned advertising sales house Media

Sales and Marketing now control 66 per cent of the radio advertising

sales market.

Capital agreed to the RA’s request and has provided assurances that it

will not conditionally sell between its two sales houses or between any

MSM clients and that there will be a complete separation of activities

between the two.

David Mansfield, Capital’s group commercial director, has stepped down

as chairman of MSM to meet the assurances. The RA implied that failure

to provide assurances could affect Capital’s licence in any subsequent

reviews.
