PUBLIC SECTOR: Whelan to handle Easington media relations

Easington District Council in County Durham has hired former reporter Sarah Whelan as its new press officer to meet the increased demand in media enquiries that the council is facing. Whelan, 30, has had six years experience as an East Durham reporter with the Sunderland Echo and started her new job last week. She reports to press and PR head Phil Bustard who said that because the former mining area is undergoing various regeneration schemes the council is being required to deal with more media enquiries and actively promote the area.
