Retail company WH Smith corporate affairs executive Ghassan Karian
has won the 1999 IPR Young Communicator of the Year award.
Karian was presented with the award by TV presenter Julia Carling at an
event held at the London Aquarium.
Ghassan worked with Labour MP for Hammersmith and Fulham Iain Coleman to
create the ’In Touch with Business’ campaign which helped develop a
strong relationship between Coleman and his business community.
The project was subsequently adopted by the Labour Party as an example
of how MPs could establish links with their communities.
Ghassan, 26, is managing editor of WH Smith’s magazine Newslink, which
is distributed to 28,000 staff worldwide. He is currently developing a
strategy to revitalise the company’s internal communications.
