its communications operations by appointing its first PR manager.



Until now, all PR has been handled by the food group’s two-strong

marketing department, led by marketing head Alison Steven. The new

manager will report to Steven, who in turn answers to chief executive

Andrew Rolfe.



While the firm is not seeking any additional PR staff at the moment, a

further expansion of its PR department has not been ruled out.



Marketing assistant Sara Jenkins said: ’We’re leaving it open to the new

manager. The person who comes in will have a fair degree of scope.’



Jenkins added that the manager will initially handle media relations and

may later also run internal communications.



Although the chain does not currently retain any agencies, Jenkins said

this may change once a manager is appointed.



Pret A Manger is looking to take a more pro-active approach to its PR in

pushing the chain’s core messages. It currently promotes itself as a

retailer of lunch-time and breakfast food made on the premises from

all-natural ingredients.



Founded by co-owners Julian Metcalfe and Sinclair Beecham in 1986, the

chain has 74 branches, 64 in London, and is seeking to expand across the

UK.
