The Natural History Museum has hired Claire Hyde, currently press
and PR manager at SBC, the organisation which runs the Royal Festival
Hall and the Hayward Gallery, to run its communications.
Hyde replaces Jane Bevan, who leaves this month to set up her own full
service PR agency, Isis PR, after over six years in the post.
The Natural History Museum - winner of the 1998 PR Week In-House
Department of the Year Award - is now the UK’s number four tourist
attraction. In 1997 it drew over 1.8 million visitors.
The museum has a seven-strong media relations team, and Hyde will report
to development and marketing head Tanya Burman.
She joined SBC in 1989 as a deputy press officer. The organisation was
created in 1986 when responsibility for concert halls in the South Bank
complex and responsibility for the Hayward Gallery was put under one
Hyde said she decided to move from the arts to science because ’I love
the idea of making science accessible’.
