Hill and Knowlton has promoted associate director Joan Walmsley to the
post of general manager of its Manchester office.
The appointment of Walmsley follows last month’s departure of Adam
Roscoe, H&K Manchester’s managing director. Roscoe, who was with H&K for
six years, moved to rival agency Greenwood Tighe to head up its
Edinburgh, Leeds and Lymm offices.
Walmsley, 53, who is the Liberal Democrat prospective parliamentary
candidate for Congleton, has been at H&K’s Manchester office since it
was established in January 1989. Before moving into PR, she worked as a
teacher and as an NHS biologist.
Walmsley said her appointment as general manger reflected the employment
pattern of ex-managing director Roscoe, who was initially hired as
general manager.
She told PR Week she was very bullish about business in the North West.
‘We have got a young and hungry team in Manchester and I think we are
really going to go for it,’ she said.
David McLaren, chief executive of Hill and Knowlton UK, said Walmsley’s
appointment would ‘ensure continuity of service and the development of
our presence in the North West’.
