Globalstar, the satellite communications company, has hired the Grey
group to run a worldwide integrated PR, public affairs and advertising
campaign as its prepares to launch its wireless telephone service in
1998.
Globalstar is a consortium of 12 telecommunications and aerospace
companies, including Alcatel, Hyundai and Daimler-Benz Aerospace. The
company plans to use 48 low earth orbiting satellites to enable users of
hand-held telephones to make and receive calls anywhere in the world.
The five telecommunications providers within the consortium will be
responsible for establishing the Globalstar system in their respective
countries: AirTouch in the US, Dacom in South Korea, France Telecom in
France, Finmeccanica in Italy and Vodafone in the UK.
Grey has been asked to run a full service campaign involving the GCI PR
network, its public affairs wing APCO and Grey Advertising. All three
firms will liaise with Globalstar’s director of corporate communications
Tom Ross.
