Diary: New Forest nomenclature is no balls-up

Checking the entries on databases is a pretty tedious task at the best of times, as PRCA assistant director Frances Preedy found recently when updating the client lists of member agencies.

Checking the entries on databases is a pretty tedious task at the

best of times, as PRCA assistant director Frances Preedy found recently

when updating the client lists of member agencies.

In her boredom she scanned the lists of company names hoping for some

small amusement.

Luckily for Frances’ sanity she found a corker, courtesy of Hampshire PR

agency Polymedia which now has the unbelievably named client, Sandy

Balls Holiday Centre. But the Carry On humour doesn’t stop there,

because the Sandy Balls organisation now owns the local pub, the

Fighting Cocks.

Polymedia director Peter Doble, who has obviously heard all the jokes

before, explained patiently to me that the Sandy Balls name comes from

the mounds of earth formed from the banks of the nearby River Avon. That

little explanation must be his principal media relations task.
