Thinking of dabbling in a bit of charity fundraising? Take a tip
from Lowe Bell’s David McDonough who has raised nearly pounds 1,700,000
in ten years of annual City dinners.
’May and October are definitely the best months for securing money from
people, particularly business people. May, because they’ve paid for
their winter holidays but have not yet gone away for the summer, and
October because if their business is doing well or if they’re going to
get a bonus that year, they’ll know by October.’
McDonough plumped for the latter option for his venture, the aptly named
October Club, which last night held its tenth evening fundraiser, this
time in aid of KIDS, a charity for handicapped children and their
parents.
The vast majority of guests, who forked out pounds 95 per ticket, are
City people, mostly traders, according to McDonough. ’The City is a rich
vein of fundraising opportunities,’ he admits.
