The largest car rental company in the US, Enterprise Rent-a-Car,

has chosen 15-month-old agency Republic to help it expand in the UK.

Republic is understood to have pitched against two other agencies for

the account.

The car rental company provides cars for people whose own vehicles are

out of action following accidents. Most of that provision is via other

companies. Republic director Deborah Lewis said the agency will

initially target the insurance industry and car repair firms through the

business to business media. Eventually, however, it intends to target

consumers.

Missouri-based Enterprise employs Shandwick in the US, where it operates

in more locations and owns more cars than any other company. It launched

in the UK four years ago and currently has 140 offices and some 500

employees in this country.

Callaway Ludington, assistant vice-president for marketing at Enterprise

said: ’We’ve been building our capacity in the UK market over the past

four years. Good media coverage plays a vital role in keeping our

business customers and associates in touch with what we’re doing.’
