Alan Preece, corporate communications manager at brewer

Carlsberg-Tetley, has resigned just two months after starting work with

the company.

Preece said he had left for personal reasons, and is now negotiating to

take a job elsewhere. He is understood to have been unhappy with his

post at Carlsberg-Tetley. ’It’s not what I wanted to be doing at this

particular time,’ he said. The company said that his departure had been

amicable.

Commercial director Colin Povey is now responsible for public relations

and Carlsberg-Tetley’s corporate, business-to-business and consumer PR

agency, Scope Ketchum, now reports to him.

Povey is reviewing the PR function, but would not reveal whether the

company intends to appoint a replacement for Preece.

Preece joined Carlsberg-Tetley from the University of East Anglia where

he was communications director, in May.

At Carlsberg-Tetley, he was responsible for external and internal

communications and was to build the company’s first central corporate

communications resource.

His appointment followed that of Doug Clydesdale as marketing director

in January. The company underwent a management restructuring earlier

this year after its proposed merger with Bass Brewers was rejected by

Margaret Beckett, President of the Board of Trade.

Preece was charged with focusing on internal communications as the

brewer concentrated on key brands and closed or sold three breweries.
