Reg Valin, co-founder and chairman of the Valin Pollen Group - the
publicly quoted financial communications firm which collapsed in 1990 -
is back, or so says Sunday Business. But as Valin tells me ‘I’d never
quite gone away’.
Indeed he is proof that there is life after PR death - after
disappearing from the scene, Valin was reborn as a ‘business angel’,
offering advice for business start-ups. ‘Having run Valin Pollen I have
a feel for the realities of life,’ says Valin from his office - actually
his apartment in Kensington. He is now working on the UK’s first daily
sports paper Sports First as a ‘management consultant’ to publisher
Keith Young and has been lending a hand in the charity sector through
Business Wise - a training scheme for underprivileged youth. He has also
invested in Cyberspace in the Spider Cafe on Portobello Road. Musing
over the past, he says he turned down several offers to start another
agency. ‘I needed to withdraw from the public gaze’, he says.
