International excavator firm JCB has appointed Steve Gillman as its new
head of press and public relations.
Gillman, 50, joined the Staffordshire company last week but takes up the
position officially next month, when director of press and public
relations Michael Hancock, 63, retires.
Since last April, Gillman has run his own PR consultancy Gillman
Communications, before which he was regional corporate communications
manager with Girobank and then with Alliance and Leicester, following
its merger with the bank.
Gillman, who will head up a team of three, said: ‘JCB will be looking at
its whole corporate communications strategy as well as attempting to
orchestrate its eight subsidiary companies overseas.’
Unlike Hancock, who joined JCB seven years after a long journalistic
career - including 30 years with the BBC - Gillman will not sit on the
JCB, which has 3,000 employees, trades in 140 countries worldwide with
Europe accounting for 70 per cent of its sales. Last year it had a
turnover of pounds 564 million.
