Bell Pottinger Public Affairs director Jonathan Caine has agreed to become chief of staff to shadow Northern Ireland secretary Owen Paterson in the run-up to the general election. Caine joined BPPA in 2007 after eight years as assistant director in the Conservative Research Department. He was special adviser to two secretaries of state for Northern Ireland from 1991 to 1995. BPPA chairman Peter Bingle said: 'We are sorry to be losing Jonathan over the next few months, but very proud that he has been asked to carry out this important task.'
The British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association has appointed a new head of comms and public affairs. Alan Murray replaces Tim Hames, who left to become special adviser to Commons Speaker John Bercow last month. Murray has worked as a freelance consultant for the past year, but was previously head of public affairs at Edinburgh-headquartered asset management group Standard Life.
