US telecom giant AT&T has appointed Euan Barty Associates to
provide media and government relations support in China. The regulation
of the Chinese market means that AT&T’s activity there has so far mainly
been restricted to equipment supply. The agency’s brief includes
lobbying the Beijing government on easing regulation of the telecom
industry. Euan Barty worked for AT&T last year on a project organising a
visit to China by chief executive Bob Allen. It was appointed without a
competitive pitch.
