BMW Financial Services Group, the wholly-owned car finance arm of
the German car giant, is in talks with agencies over the possibility of
appointing its first retained PR consultancy in the UK.
The group currently offers car loans and insurance to BMW and Rover car
owners. There was press speculation earlier this year that the group
would be expanding its services into retail banking, but BMW Financial
Services denies this was an option.
The group is understood to have seen agencies including Ptarmigan, Key
Communications, The Communication Group and Grayling in the past few
weeks to discuss whether to outsource its PR.
Peter Walker, the firm’s marketing communications manager, confirmed
that he had met with agencies to discuss how to approach media
He added that he had not decided whether to appoint an agency yet and
had not issued a formal brief.
BMW Financial Services Group in the UK is comprised of three divisions:
BMW Financial Services and Rover Financial Services, which offer
products to private and business motorists, including hire and lease
purchase schemes, and Alphabet, a car fleet funding and management
operation which handles BMW and non-BMW brands.
The group is based in Hampshire and headed by Petra Kerp, who joined as
chief executive last year.
