Shel Israel warns PR professionals they must change with the times

Controversial social media expert Shel Israel has hit out at the social media practices of PROs in an exclusive interview with PRWeek.

Speaking at the Lewis PR Social Media Channels event, Israel said that he saw the future of PR professionals in 'the restaurant service industry' should they continue to use social media as they currently are.

'There are a bunch of PR people who think that their job is to pitch and pitch and pitch and pitch and if they keep going on this route and keep up these practices and bring them into social media, I see a future for them in the restaurant service industry,' he said.

Israel spoke at the event alongside MP Tom Watson, 3UK's Hugh Davies, the FT's Peter Whitehead and IBM's Ian McNain, discussing social media in Government and corporate communications. The event was chaired by The Guardian's blogs editor Kevin Anderson.
