Shooting Council loads up with Advocacy
The British Shooting Sports Council, one of the groups that gave
evidence to the Home Affairs select committee which voted against a ban
on handguns, has hired the Advocacy Partnership. Advocacy will work for
the council until after the publication of the Cullen report on the
Dunblane massacre and any subsequent legislation.
Law Society to seek communicator
The Law Society will advertise for a director of communications next
month. The post combines the role of former director of corporate and
regional affairs Andrew Lockley with that of former head of PR Sue
Stapely. The successful applicant will be given a seat on the management
board.
Le Shuttle aims for freight increases
Le Shuttle is aiming to boost its 45 per cent market share of the cross
channel freight business with a PR drive through the Communications
Partnership. The agency, which was handed the contract last week, will
target individual HGV truck drivers and haulage companies.
Donoghue joins National Aids Trust
The National Aids Trust has hired Bernard Donoghue as senior policy and
parliamentary officer from SENSE, the national deaf, blind and rubella
association.
Downes becomes newspaper man
Justin Downes, co-founder of City PR firm Financial Dynamics, is to join
fledgling City trade paper London Financial News next month as a
director. Founding editor Clive Wolman said Downes’ job will be to
spearhead its advertising sales drive.
H&M goes on trial with the Black Horse
Lloyds Bank subsidiary Black Horse Financial Services has hired Holmes &
Marchant for a three month trial period. H&M will work alongside the
Lloyds press office.
Mental health body appoints Heaton
The Mental Health After Care Association has recruited ex-Staffordshire
Local Authority PR head Peter Heaton as its first director of
communications. The charity supports 1,300 carers in the UK.
PR Education Trust issues ‘how to’ guides
The Public Relations Education Trust, set up by the PRCA and IPR ten
years ago, has published a set of ten ‘how to’ books on successful PR
campaigns including the Stop Post Office Privatisation and the Miss
Pears contest.
Lewis wins ICL Sorbus and Hermstedt
Hi-tech agency Lewis Communications has picked up two new accounts: from
ICL Sorbus, to promote its asset management service, and from German
computer link manufacturer Hermstedt, to handle its UK media relations.
MCM tunes up with Oscar’s Orchestra
MacLaurin Communications has won a pounds 100,000-budget brand building
account for Warner Vision International and Quintus Group. The brief is
to build consumer awareness of the characters in Oscar’s Orchestra, a
13-part animated children’s series beginning on BBC1 on 24 September.
Andrews names Ashton for new firm
Outgoing BBC head of worldwide corporate affairs, Leighton Andrews has
appointed Catherine Ashton to his as yet unnamed political consultancy.
