Diary: Goldsmith family’s Robertson isn’t left marooned

The Referendum Party may have no MPs but at least it still has Patrick Robertson. It seems the pugnacious PR man - whose somewhat tempestuous relationship with the media during the campaign was temporarily interrupted when the PR reins were handed to media consultant and ex-News of the World editor Bernard Shrimsley - has outlasted them all.

Patrick Robertson. It seems the pugnacious PR man - whose somewhat

tempestuous relationship with the media during the campaign was

temporarily interrupted when the PR reins were handed to media

consultant and ex-News of the World editor Bernard Shrimsley - has

outlasted them all.

Shrimsley has gone and all the other staff positions are ’under review’

but for Robertson, James Goldsmith’s personal PR man, everything in the

hacienda garden is lovely.

An uncharacteristically talkative Robertson tells me: ’I was, and am,

chief of staff for Sir James. I look after him, his family and Imran and

Jemima Khan and I am handling media calls for the Referendum Party while

it transforms itself into the Referendum Movement’.

What an old smoothie.
