Diary: IPR wizard goes back to Oz as he realises there’s no place like home

This week the Diary mourns the imminent departure of a PR legend: Jeremy Weinberg, IPR public relations manager.

This week the Diary mourns the imminent departure of a PR legend:

Jeremy Weinberg, IPR public relations manager.

The ebullient Weinberg, is leaving at the end of July for a return visit

to his native Australia. Long term he says he is ’considering his

options’.

A true professional, Weinberg has given the world of public relations

some of its most memorable moments. Who can forget his whip-wielding

slave auctioneer turn at the Two-Ten slave auction? Or that

characteristically candid quote in the Guardian Diary which raised the

comment: ’It could almost make you like PRs’? Or even the Easy

Rider-esque pose aboard the IPR-branded 50cc Piaggio scooter?

Weinberg, who came to the IPR in 1995 to do four weeks’ work and never

left, admits with a discernible tremor, that he’ll miss the PR

community.

’One of the really nice things about being at the IPR has been feeling

part of the industry and knowing a lot of what’s going on. I’ll miss

it.’

And it’ll miss him.
