Diary: Wise monkeys around in Marrakesh and prepares for a new role with a big stash

Most of us stash the odd glossy mag away when swanning off to sunny climes but Eileen Wise, ex-Tory head of news, is taking a whole case-load.

Most of us stash the odd glossy mag away when swanning off to sunny

climes but Eileen Wise, ex-Tory head of news, is taking a whole

case-load.

For Wise, now enjoying a well-earned rest in Morocco after the rigours

of the election, has just won the plum job of corporate communications

director at the National Magazine Company - home to such glossies as

Cosmo, Harpers and Queen, Esquire and Country Living.

Time then for some background reading: ’In the last year I have not

really looked at any glossy magazines at all,’ she tells me, before

flying off to Marrakesh. ’I’ve been on a solid diet of the Spectator,

the New Statesman, Prospect and the Economist.

’I’ve started to look at them very closely and am taking a whole

case-load on holiday. Today, I spent pounds 25 on the opposition’s

magazines alone.’

Opposition? That was the last job, surely?
