Tourists visiting London often like to pose with our quaintly helmeted
policemen for a quick snapshot. But fashion PR Janet Hurton tells me of
a rather more revealing incident involving one of London’s finest, when
the boot was on the other foot.
Hurton was organising a Gossard shoot in Hyde Park recently involving
several scantily clad people of the female persuasion.
Scarcely had the girls got their kit off, when the group were spotted by
a mounted policeman. The attentive copper hung around keeping the
suspects under observation until Hurton took pity on him and sanctioned
a snap of him and one of the girls dressed in suspenders and a basque.
The incident must surely be one of the most bizarre in Hurton’s long
career with Gossard. When she hands over the bra straps to Jean Bennett
PR next month, it will end a relationship that has intermittently
spanned three decades.
Despite hanging up her Gossard basque, Janet is not retiring from the PR
scene however. She is continuing her own Wendover-based agency, which
focuses on beauty, fashion, arts and women’s interests, and says she is
particularly keen on shorter-term projects.
Whether any will attract such keen attention from the local law
enforcement community remains to be seen.
