Anglian Water has named Mike Keohane, head of corporate communications
at Hydro-Electric, as its new corporate relations director.
Keohane joins the water utility in April after eight years at Perth-
based Hydro-Electric. He replaces Claire Maskell who left Anglian in
December, after 15 months in the job, to join the London Stock Exchange.
Keohane, who reports to Anglian’s finance director, Chris Mellor, will
head up a staff of 26 handling investor relations, internal
communications, parliamentary issues, media, marketing and community
He said his main aim at Anglian Water, which in November announced its
most successful half-year ever, was to ensure that the company was
‘properly understood’ by all its audiences.
‘Anglian enjoys a very high reputation as water companies go,’ he said.
‘Its investment in infrastructure has been seen to pay off and last
summer, which was a difficult time for some water companies, was
actually very good for Anglian.
‘We may not be able to challenge politicians’ political beliefs but we
can be sure that when they make statements about us they make them from
a position of authority.’
Keohane said his new team was already very strong. ‘What I’ll bring to
the party is good experience in performance measurement,’ he said.
‘During my time at Hydro-Electric we knew precisely which messages we
wanted to convey to which audiences. When we had identified, and
communicated those messages, we measured our communications to ensure
that we had achieved what we had set out to do.’
Before joining Hydro-Electric, Keohane was head of group corporate
communications at the Royal Bank of Scotland.
