Wembley Arena is on the verge of hiring its first PR consultancy to help

position itself as the UK’s premier events venue in the face of

competition from rivals.

Five consumer agencies have pitched for the contract and an appointment

is expected by the start of next month.

Wembley Stadium press and public relations manager Martin Corrie

declined to name the contenders, but confirmed that the Arena was

looking for support to position itself as a top venue among events

promoters and the public.

‘We are looking to increase our publicity exposure,’ said Corrie. ‘We

recognise that it’s a very competitive marketplace and we have to be

more progressive and flexible in our outlook to deal with that.’

Part of the Wembley group, which also owns the Wembley stadium and

conference and exhibition centre, Wembley Arena hosts a range of events

including rock concerts and the Horse of the Year show.

However, in recent years it has seen business slipping to rivals such as

Sheffield Arena and the NEC in Birmingham as well as the London Arena in

Docklands.
