CE Electric hires GJW to fend off referral
Lobbying firm GJW has been hired by CE Electric to help fend off a
referral of its bid, for Northern Electric, to the Monopolies and
Mergers Commission. Jointly owned by US generator CalEnergy and Peter
Kiewit Sons, CE Electric launched a hostile bid for Northern three weeks
ago. It is using Brunswick for financial PR support.
PR to feel effects of EU 48 hour directive
The EU’s 48-hour working week directive will affect public relations
professionals, the DTI has confirmed. PR people will be able to work
more than 48-hours voluntarily, but their agreement will have to be
recorded which could mean employers incur extra costs.
Lights go out in Aberdeen for Dorrian
Kevin Dorrian, associate director of Citigate’s Aberdeen office, has
been made redundant. Citigate however, denied Dorrian’s assertion that
it was closing the office. Dorrian accused the agency of not giving the
office a chance to succeed.
Campaign for Learning hires F-H
Fleishman-Hillard has been appointed to the Campaign for Learning’s
consumer launch, ‘Learning for Life’, following a five-way pitch.
Harlow takes on WH Smith PR role
Liz Harlow, WH Smith Retail’s relationship marketing manager, has
assumed overall responsibility for PR, following the departure of brand
communications manager Julia Nolan. The chain is currently searching for
a PR manager.
Hasson quits BBC for film and TV interests
Fred Hasson, BBC head of corporate relations for regional broadcasting,
is leaving next month ‘to pursue business interests in the film and TV
industries’. Hasson worked at Producers Alliance for Cinema and TV
(PACT) before joining the BBC.
Multimedia to open London branch
Multimedia Public Relations and Marketing, the Chepstow-based hi-tech
agency, is to open an office in London. Formed in 1993, Multimedia is
looking to recruit a PR and marketing practitioner to head up the new
branch.
GLR picks Consolidated for pitch
GLR, the BBC’s London radio station, has selected Consolidated
Communications to pitch against sales promotion firm Amadeus and design
company Crammond Lerner and Dickens.
Costello joins PA Consulting Group
