Computer networking giant Cisco Systems is to part company with UK
agency Firefly and has handed a new corporate brief to Band and
Cisco, which supplies products for corporate networks, intranets and the
internet, will bring relations with IT press in the UK - currently
handled by Firefly - in-house. Band and Brown will handle corporate PR
in the UK.
Cisco is looking to recruit a UK PR manager to handle relations with the
IT press while Band and Brown will target national press and business
titles such as Business Age and Management Today.
Band and Brown’s team will be led by Cheryl Gale, account director and
head of its IT division. Gale joined Band and Brown from the Weber Group
two years ago.
The agency will report to Cisco’s new head of UK marketing Amanda Rigby
who joins from Dow Jones Markets where she was regional marketing
manager for the UK and Republic of Ireland.
Band and Brown was appointed to handle the UK account after a pitch
against Icas PR. The agency already handles PR for Cisco at corporate
level across Europe, reporting to European corporate PR manager Imogen
Firefly will cease to handle IT press relations in October by which time
Cisco hopes to have made the in-house appointment. Last January it took
its European product PR, previously handled by Text 100, in-house.
In the UK Cisco has a turnover of pounds 280 million.
