TeleWest, the UK’s largest cable operator, has hired Barrington Lloyd
International to handle its trade and technical communications ahead of
a major rebranding exercise.
BLI will work alongside TeleWest’s financial agency Dewe Rogerson, which
helped steer the company through its flotation last year. TeleWest hired
BLI on the basis of its track record in the industry. BLI’s clients
include industry marketing body the Cable Communications Association.
‘I required an organisation who were extremely well-connected in the
trade and technical areas in this industry and Barrington Lloyd fits the
bill,’ said TeleWest director of corporate relations Ian Hood.
Hood admitted that the TeleWest brand is virtually unknown outside the
industry because its franchise interests across the UK operate using
different names such as United Artists Communications. Under the
rebranding exercise, operations will be consolidated under the TeleWest
TeleWest has interests in 31 franchises covering about 4.1 million
homes. US media giant TCI and telecoms company US West each owns 26.8
per cent of TeleWest.
Both BLI senior partner Barry Lloyd and Hood declined to reveal how much
the business was worth in fees to the agency.
