communications for Avalon Oil, the energy company which plans to list on

London’s Alternative Investment Market next month.

The firm controls a 49 per cent stake in Stimul, a joint venture company

formed with Russia’s largest energy group Gazprom to exploit oil

deposits in the southern Russian region of Orenburg. The venture is the

first time a Western oil firm has managed to gain access to the vast oil

fields of the Urals.

Hill Murray Rogerson, which beat three other competitors to land the

contract, has been briefed to flag up interest in the float among fund

managers and City analysts associated with the emerging markets and

energy sectors. Press relations will range from the national broadsheets

to specialist investment publications.

Agency director Tim Thompson, who is leading the account, said Avalon

Oil had opted for a London rather than a US placing because of the

City’s understanding of the Russian market. Avalon’s adviser Henderson

Crosthwaite plans to place 45 per cent of the company with institutions

to raise about pounds 35 million.
