Top names in the automotive diesel engineering industry including
Vauxhall, Rover and Lucas Varity have forged an alliance to counter
’misinformation’ about diesel.
The Diesel Industry Forum, which will launch formerly in the next few
weeks, is being billed as a provider of information, rather than a
campaigning group.
Its seven members will try to combat negative press and comment over the
environmentally harmful affects of diesel. Poorly-maintained diesel
engines have been found to emit fine particles which can penetrate the
lungs.
The Forum’s programme of activities will be facilitated by PR company
Pielle Consulting. Over the past three months the agency has been
compiling factual data for briefing sheets which it will distribute to a
broad spectrum of audiences from the Government to the general
public.
Pielle will also help the Forum support local authorities in their
planned campaign to encourage the public to report owners of vehicles
with old ’dirty’ engines, diesel or petrol.
