One could easily assume this rather strangled expression from Jewish
Care director of communications Paul Summerfield, was due to finding
David Puttnam on the bill at the recent IPR Young Communicator of 1996
awards.
Film-maker Puttnam, you may remember, pitched Jewish Care in a spin last
week by telling a 400-guest charity lunch that caring Jews should vote
Labour at the election.
The speech, which replaced Puttnam’s advertised talk on the media, went
down particularly badly with Jewish Care’s president, ex-Tory minister
Lord Young of Graffham.
However, Summerfield, pictured with Jewish Care press and PR officer
Emma Wohl, side-stepped references to the affair. ‘It’s my normal
expression,’ he insists.
