The Association of Cycle Traders (ACT), the body which represents
independent bicycle shops, is looking for its first in-house PR person.
ACT president Peter Robinson said a ‘passion for cycling’ is required
for the position, provisionally entitled PR officer.
The job, which will be based at the association’s Tunbridge Wells
headquarters, will cover lobbying on such issues as the inclusion of
bike racks in planning proposals.
The candidate will also communicate with the ACT’s 1,000 members and
promote the ‘unique features’ of its member’s stores to the public.
The ACT is run part time by seven board directors who also manage their
own bicycle shops and a full time secretarial and administration team.
Robinson said that administration staff were ‘not good’ at public
relations and the directors were too close to the business to do the
job.
He added that the job comes with a company bicycle although the
sucessful candidate will not be expected to always arrive at business
meetings and press launches on it.
