NEWS: Bernstein signs up with FoE

Friends of the Earth, the environmental charity, has appointed Simon Bernstein as its new communications director.

Friends of the Earth, the environmental charity, has appointed Simon

Bernstein as its new communications director.

A former head of communications at the NSPCC, Bernstein joins the

charity on 20 January. Reporting to executive director Charles Secrett,

he will be responsible for devising and implementing its communication

strategy. His role also covers fundraising, direct marketing and

publishing.

Bernstein’s appointment follows an internal reorganisation at FoE

earlier this year which saw fundraising merge with the publications and

information department to form a 20-strong communications and

fundraising unit.

Set up 25 years ago, Friends of the Earth has campaigned on issues

ranging from whaling to road traffic pollution. Recently it has been

criticised for being too bureaucratic, while membership and donations

have declined.
