Channel 5 Broadcasting PR chief Sally Osman is to join the BBC’s
commissioning arm, BBC Broadcast, as controller of press and
publicity.
Reporting to marketing and communications director Sue Farr, Osman will
be responsible for a staff of around 70 promoting radio, television,
online and digital services.
Aside from Broadcast, the BBC also has press offices handling its
corporate PR, and PR for its production and resources divisions.
BBC Broadcast chief executive Will Wyatt said: ’Sally’s appointment
gives us the ideal opportunity to bring to the attention of our licence
fee payers the full might of the BBC’s public service channels and
services, which together account for 43 per cent of the nation’s
listening and viewing.’
Osman joined Channel 5 in July 1996, before its launch. She oversaw the
retuning campaign - before the channel could go on air home video
recorders had to be retuned and technicians were sent door-to-door to
carry this out.
Prior to joining Channel 5, Osman was a publisher at Redwood Publishing,
where she developed and launched titles for Harvey Nichols and Boots the
Chemists.
