Pfizer, the sixth-largest pharmaceutical company in the world, has

appointed Miranda Kavanagh as its first UK head of corporate and public

affairs.

Kavanagh joins from Citigate Communications, where she headed the

healthcare division. She will report to chairman Ken Moran and is due to

take a place on the Pfizer board by the end of the year.

Moran said that the corporate and public affairs role was created to

ensure Pfizer has the capacity to work within UK political and business

environments.

’The corporate profile needs to be developed,’ said Moran. ’Millions use

our products but have never heard of us. Within Government we are known,

but not necessarily seen as one of the major players.’

Pfizer aims to become the world’s leading healthcare company by

2002.

It retains Edelman PR Worldwide as its corporate affairs agency and GPC

Market Access for public affairs.

Kavanagh’s client responsibilities at Citigate will be taken on by

executive director John Rudofsky, who has acted as an alternate senior

adviser for Citigate’s healthcare clients alongside Kavanagh.

Citigate chairman Jonathan Clare said of Kavanagh: ’She has the ability

to simplify complicated issues without losing their sense of

importance.’
