Edelman PR hires new Euro healthcare chief

Edelman Public Relations Worldwide has appointed Rolf Gulliksen as head of its European healthcare practice.

Edelman Public Relations Worldwide has appointed Rolf Gulliksen as

head of its European healthcare practice.

Gulliksen joins from Edelman’s Swedish affiliate Andreasson PR, which he

joined two years ago to set up the healthcare division. He will arrive

at Edelman’s London office on 15 September.

The head of European healthcare post has been empty since Robin Wright,

who was also head of the UK practice, left suddenly in March. Mark Cater

was made group director of the UK healthcare practice.

Acting as a link between Edelman’s existing healthcare practices across

Europe, Gulliksen’s key task will be to develop new business. Current

clients include Lilly, Bayer and Boehringer Mannheim.

’I will be liaising with Edelman’s eight European offices and 17

affiliates to develop our core healthcare capabilities,’ Gulliksen said.

He added that Edelman aimed to become the leading healthcare agency in

Europe.

Healthcare is a key business area for Edelman, worth around pounds 15

million of revenues in 1996 and accounting for more than 20 per cent of

the firm’s total income.

Prior to joining Andreasson, which has a four-strong healthcare team,

Gulliksen ran Merck Sharp and Dohme’s external affairs department in

Sweden.

He will be replaced at Andreasson by Sonja Daleback, who joined the

company at the end of June. Daleback was previously vice-president for

communications of steel company Fundia. She has also worked with

pharmaceutical giant Pharmacia, heading up its worldwide external

communications.

- Edelman has also promoted Susan Isenberg and Joan Spivak to manage the

worldwide healthcare practice in New York. They replace Nancy Turett,

who was promoted to president of consumer and healthcare.
