Edelman Europe takes on Klewes

Edelman Worldwide has appointed Joachim Klewes as president of

Edelman Europe. Klewes also becomes a board member of the parent

company.

Richard Edelman, Edelman Worldwide president and chief executive, had

been seeking a replacement for Michel Ogrizek, who joined Unilever as

head of corporate relations, since May.

Klewes was formerly a founder and managing director of leading German

agency Kohtes and Klewes which he left in 1996 after selling his shares

to BBDO. He then set up a management consultancy called k-brain which

will be integrated into Edelman.

’Joachim is an entrepreneur,’ said Edelman. ’He ran a large company for

a number of years which gives him a huge advantage over someone who’s

just run an office.’

Edelman Europe’s headquarters moves from Paris to Dusseldorf as a result

of Klewes’ appointment. According to Edelman, Klewes will attempt to

gain more accounts which work across the entire European network of

eight agencies.

He will also focus on convincing French and German companies which have

traditionally handled public relations in-house to consider hiring an

agency.

Klewes said: ’The most important task is to form a unique European group

of offices with a total integration of systems. Then we will work on

adding other facets to our profile. Edelman has been marketing-led and

is getting stronger in corporate and financial PR which we will continue

to work on.’
